Insurance for your electric car that has you covered
An electric car has certain insurance needs that other cars don’t, such as specific fire extinguishing costs or problems with your charging cable (driving off while the cable is still connected to your car or driving over the cable). That’s why 96% of our customers who own an electric car opt for fully comprehensive insurance (all risk comprehensive insurance).
Our comprehensive insurance covers your car in all situations, protecting it and any additional fitted features and accessories against all risks. This means that we cover virtually any claim event, unless it is included on the limited list of claim events not covered by the policy.
Reimbursement of the full amount up to 48 months after purchasing the car
You can count on receiving generous compensation from us if your vehicle is declared a total loss or stolen. Get the full amount you paid for a new fully electric car up to 48 months after purchasing it If you’re insuring a second-hand electric car, the purchase price guarantee applies for 24 months.
Discount for safe drivers
If you haven’t caused an accident that has resulted in damage or injury for a period of five years, we’ll give you a no-claims joker that will ensure your premium doesn’t go up after your first at-fault accident. We automatically arrange this for you, so you don’t have to do anything yourself.
Flexible cover: mix-and-match your insurance package
At KBC Brussels, you can tailor the insurance package for your electric car to fully meet your needs thanks to the convenient mix-and-match principle. You start with compulsory third-party liability insurance and then choose which add-on cover you want, such as comprehensive insurance, legal assistance, or driver accident insurance. This enables you to easily put together a package that perfectly matches your driving style, the type of vehicle you have, the number of kilometres you drive and your budget. What’s more, you can manage everything with ease in KBC Brussels Mobile or KBC Brussels Touch, thus ensuring you can keep an eye on things and stay in control at all times.
Other useful information when looking to insure your electric car
Naturally, the price of a vehicle affects the insurance premium: the more expensive the vehicle, the higher the risk. That said, the premium is determined not only on the price of the vehicle, but also on its power, the driver’s age and where they live.
Insurance for electric vehicles is no more expensive than for fossil-fuel vehicles. What’s more, since new vehicles are equipped with more safety features and driver-assistance systems than older ones, KBC also charges a lower premium for newer models.
No. Insurance for electric vehicles is no more expensive than for fossil-fuel vehicles. Since new vehicles are equipped with more safety features and driver-assistance systems than older ones, KBC charges a lower premium for newer models.
Problems that do still occasionally arise with electric vehicles are damage to the charge point itself or damage caused by a defect in the charge point. Many people rightly wonder whether they are insured for this. Damage to the charge point is covered by your all risks comprehensive insurance and damage caused by a defect in the charge point such as a short circuit is covered in most cases by KBC Brussels Home Insurance*.
I’ve been a customer at KBC Brussels for many years, so when I switched to an electric car a little while ago, I didn’t have to think twice about taking out comprehensive insurance with them. I just had to send through the details of the new car and all the paperwork was taken care of for me.
